Edward W. Kane Park

title image
Kane Park, a green space historically linked to the University Museum, was built in 2012 to replace what had become a surface parking lot. The park features a circular permeable paved path surrounding a central elevated lawn for passive recreation. Decorative benches line the pathway, beyond which garden beds teem with mainly native grasses, flowering shrubs, trees, perennials, and bulbs. The space provides a relaxing setting, especially for staff, patients, and family members at the nearby Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Designed by Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects.

Plants in this park include:

grape hyacinth (Muscari botryoides)
threadleaf bluestar (Amsonia hubrichtii)
beach rose (Rosa rugosa)
dwarf fothergilla (Fothergilla gardenii)
oakleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia)
Allegheny serviceberry (Amelanchier x grandiflora)
Diana rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus 'Diana')
sugar maple(Acer saccharum)
American holly (Ilex opaca)
